Magazine front cover comparison

Magazine front cover in comparison to 'School Weekly' front cover

This school magazine cover 'Home School Enrichment' in comparison to my 'School Weekly' magazine cover conveys various similarities and also differences. The 'Home School Enrichment' magazine uses various bright and eye-catching colours such as; yellow, purple and green which grabs the readers attention immediately: Purple and yellow both being used on the masthead. This gives the magazine a warm and positive tone and appearance. On the other hand in my school magazine cover of 'School Weekly' i have used a plain black font with the school logo situated to the right hand side of the masthead to convey that it is a formal magazine which will provide information about upcoming events or past school trips/events that were a success, also to show that the magazine is aimed at students, teachers or parents of southfield school. 'Home School Enrichment' have sell lines both aligned on the right and left hand side, where as i chose to only situate various sell lines on the right hand side as my mid shot image is situated more towards the left/middle of the front cover and also to keep it clear and uncluttered. On the masthead of 'Home School Enrichment'  the Serif font has been used to convey that the magazine is reliable and trustworthy which will provide comfort and sustainability for the audience reading. Moreover the sell lines for 'Home School Enrichment' are a sans serif font which is also beneficial and may attract a younger audience and show to be more of a friendly and trendy front cover. In similarity to my 'School Weekly' magazine i also used a sans serif font to attract all students and for them to feel comfortable reading it. Moreover 'Home School Enrichment' use a question in one of thier many sell lines "Leave it to the pro's?" which can convey as being interrogative and forceful which results in the reader wanting to read on and answer the question themselves. They also used rather imperative sell lines. In contrast i used mainly statements as my sell lines:  "New house point scheme" and "Year 7 open evening, wed 2nd oct" to inform the reader. I also used an exclamation to emphasise the sell lines and portray success and delight.

School magazine front cover 'School Weekly'

This is my finished school magazine front cover, which I produced with another AS Media student as the task was optioned to work with one other partner or by yourself.
We chose to name our school magazine ‘School Weekly’ as we thought that straight away the title gives away what type of magazine it is and that it will include information of things that have been going on through the week at ‘Southfields sports and science academy’. We also chose to place the school logo beside the title as part of our masthead to show that it is for ‘Southfields School’ and also to give the masthead a bit of colour. Our colour scheme/house style was red, white and black as these are the school colours, these colours are shown on the school uniform and also around the school in classrooms and hallways. The sell lines that we included were mainly kept red, but also had one sell line white& one black so that it was not all the same. We did them these colour of course due to house style we were aiming for and the fact that they were school colours. We decided to write among the sell lines ‘Year 7 open evening wed 2nd Oct’ to provide our audience with information on upcoming events. Also ‘New school improvements!’ + The image of one of the schools new improvements which was the new TV’s around the school which provide students& teachers with information about the school. We chose to include this sell line and show them an image to attract the eye of the readers by showing that the info on the ‘New improvements!’ inside is exclusive as they are ‘New’ and have just been put into the school. Furthermore ‘The Ecuador Experience; see inside for pics’ is an event that has past therefore is informing the audience of how this event went and pictures of Ecuador& the students that went inside, this will attracts them as they will want to see the ‘pics’ provided. Lastly ‘98% A*-C exam & A level results’ this is providing the audience with success of the school. The image on the front cover is of a year 7 student that attends ‘Southfield school’ in her uniform and also holding another new school improvement which is the school lanyards which allows students to swipe in& out of school. This is intrigues the audience as they want to know what this model is holding and more about it.
